Architects trip to Marvin Windows in Minneapolis 2009
Five architects at the special invitation of Marvin Architectural made a trip to Marvin manufacturing plant headquarters in Minneasota in August last.
The trip started with an architectural tour of Minneapolis city to include Frank Lloyd Wright buildings and other buildings of architectural significance. They also got to experience the beauty of the skywalk system which connects all major buildings at the first floor level around the city. The Marvin plane then took the party up to Warroad which is the manufacturing centre for Marvin Windows and Doors.
The very vastness and scale of this operation was what was most impressive : 40 acres of manufacturing plant, 3000 skilled craftsmen on site producing made to order windows and doors. Of particular interest to the architects was the Signature product line which specialises in unique and challenging glazing detail such as spider web patterned glazing or windows which reflect the shape of osprey wings. The new CE marked manufacturing line for the European market was also of particular interest as was the double vac treatment. All work and no play etc ….so the trip included a fishing trip on the famous lakes and a visit to Mall of America.
